Benny Goodman and his Orchestra performed for seven months at the Congress Hotel in Chicago beginning in November 1935. During
that engagement, the Goodman band launched the Swing Era. For the next decade, swing dominated popular music in the United
States, the first and only time that jazz and popular music became one and the same.
